JURYRAPPORT MAASKANTPRIJS 2010 TOP 3

Dérive, a technique of rapid passage through varied ambiences. Dérives involve playful-constructive behavior and awareness of psychogeographical effects, and are thus quite different from the classic notions of journey or stroll.
Concept by Guy Debord

Irren Berlin means wondering trough the streets from A to B(erlin), the city is characterized by it's versatility. Going from East to west by the comfort of a complete public transport system. Creating a conceptual identity for the city of Berlin, it was important to get its citizens into the city. Starting at point A and following an algorythm of lefts and rights to find their own routes to B.

Volkskrant Oog was an online image platform. Each week, an artist gave his view on the current news. Unfortunately the blog stopped in 2009.

This is a newspaper based on the blog. The form is a lens system, where the most current news is placed in the center. This way, each week is visible.
In the system you can see how many times a theme/issue is discussed and in wich time period.

Thesis written about the inspiration I get from high fashion, in particular the late Alexander McQueen. For me as a graphic designer, the strong women of Alexander McQueen are a great inspiration and always will be.
I have always had a great love for fashion and its designers. Fashion designers have the gift to always renew themselves and have a great view of what's going on in society. They are the ones who decide what the world looks like. Designers like Alexander McQueen give us the opportunity to show our identity. This thesis is a plea for all graphic designers to get inspired by the world of fashion.

The design is a folded A2 magazine. The inside of the folded pages contains a silk-screened poster.

Biomimicry is an emerging discipline that studies nature’s best ideas and then imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems.

The book 'Biomimicry' by Janine M. Benyus was a huge inspiration for Shilpi to write a manifesto for designers to get inspired by nature's way of solving design cases. She developed 10 laws of design that every designer can use during the work progress. The design of the manifesto was made as efficient as possible, therefore the size is based on a press plate. And It is possible to fold it into a booklet or use it as a poster.

quotation:
Now that she created an opening, she experienced a surprising selection which is hilarious from time to time. During the process she found herself discovering more and more input which made the ubu-web content readable. She started creating her own subjective view on ubu and converted this to a publication. She did the same with the objective content of the website. The two publications came together into one book, with an objective and subjective point of view. The coverless book looks like it's just a small part of something bigger.

In search of a coffee-bar where you can feel at home and be with your best friends, cat-friends?!
Barkat invited us to introduce their first friend, George Cooney. A Maine Coon youngster, excited to become part of this rendez-vous point.

Auto-public started a case-study on the coffee-bar, starting with the name for it… Barkat! Phonetic Bengal for the Arabic word 'Barakah'.

In Islam, Barakah (Arabic: بركة : also Baraka‎) is the beneficent force from God that flows through the physical and spiritual spheres as prosperity, protection, and happiness.[1] Baraka is the continuity of spiritual presence and revelation that begins with God and flows through that and those closest to God.[2] Baraka can be found within physical objects, places, and people, as chosen by God. This force begins by flowing directly from God into creation that is worthy of baraka.[3] These creations endowed with baraka can then transmit the flow of baraka to the other creations of God through physical proximity or through the adherence to the spiritual practices of the Prophet Muhammad. God is the sole source of baraka and has the power to grant and withhold baraka.
